Back Again

After three years I plan to have you follow on a new journey which will hopefully be both a move not only across the country but produce better work

Sculpture is needed right now in a way that it’s been available since the stone age but largely has fallen into disuse. Somehow sculpture in the history of art since the middle ages became models of a paintings. A portrait of a female model translated itself essentially into a model of a painting. Especially as the “ism’s” walked past the last century — Impressionism, Cubism, Fauvism, Futurism, etc. Sculpture to some degree translated each into a walk around model of the genre.

Abstract Expressionism after World War Two brought an object quality to sculpture packaged in philosophy which leaned on movements such as Oriental religion and theatrical allusions. I work to develop work which leans on the viewer both singly and in community to translate and develop my work.

Why have a journal

This journal will help me understand what my work is doing. In writing about art you are contributing to it’s development while being in the public eye. The worst thing about my work is that it almost surges from idea to example. It is in keeping with this website’ s title — ideas into objects that a good part of my works success — or lack of it is in the transfer of information. The Rosetta Stone gave an unimportant memo from ancient Egypt a lasting importance simply because it was repeated in three languages, one of which was understood thousands of years later. Sculpture is unique in that, like the Rosetta Stone, it is first an object. With this journal I hope help you understand both what my work is about and learn together more about what objects tell us.
